Microchip Technology Inc.., A provider of microcontroller has patented a technology called 'GestIC Technology'. This technology is able to display more intuitive dimension. Quoted from the official website microchip.com, GestIC technology allows something executed with hand gestures (gesture-based) in the absence of direct physical contact at the interface and can be applied to all devices that exist today. This technology is applied to the electric field (like a mouse pad) called MGC3130.
Unlike the 'gesture-based' are on enhancements to the Xbox 360, which still capture the two-dimensional control, this technology already supports the control interface with 3-D capabilities. So when exemplified by the movement of the hand, the technology is able to translate the curve of the fingers and hands intact. The controller uses a 3-dimensional power consumption of only 150 mikrowatt which means more efficient 90% of the gesture-based system that uses a camera. Of course you can imagine if this technology has been commercialized and applied to various devices, touch screen technology will look outdated.
